Science impacts everyone's world. With over 1,800 journals publishing articles from across science, technology and health, our mission is to share some of the stories that matter. Each month Atlas will showcase research that can (or already has) significantly impact people's lives around the world and we hope that bringing wider attention to this research will go some way to ensuring its successful implementation.
With so many worthy articles published the tough job of selecting a single article to be awarded "The Atlas" each month comes down to an Advisory Board. The winning research is presented alongside interviews, expert opinions, multimedia and much more on the Atlas website.
We aim to showcase some of the articles that can make a real difference and hope you'll find this to be a valuable resource.

Questa è una questione di libertà, non di prezzo. Per capire il concetto, bisognerebbe pensare alla “libertà di parola” e non alla “birra gratis” [NdT: il termine free in inglese significa sia gratuito che libero, in italiano il problema non esiste].
Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) are a method of estimating technology maturity of Critical Technology Elements (CTE) of a program during the acquisition process. They are determine during a Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA) that examines program concepts, technology requirements, and demonstrated technology capabilities. TRL are based on a scale from 1 to 9 with 9 being the most mature technology. The use of TRLs enables consistent, uniform, discussions of technical maturity across different types of technologies.
Robo Defense is a game in which you build a wall of towers to slow down and hopefully stop your enemies from crossing the screen into your base. The Enemies in Robo Defense do not fight back, but only try to make it into your hopefully guarded base.
Graph drawing can be thought of as a form of data visualization, but unlike most other types of visualization the information to be visualized is purely combinatorial, consisting of edges connecting a set of vertices.
