Create a pdf with barcodes to backup text files on paper. Designed to backup ASCII-armored GnuPG and SSH key files and ciphertext.
Sort files and pack them into partitions.
Shellscript for synchronization of files and directories (a simple alternative to RSYNC)
Creates GPG encrypted, compressed backups; client-side encryption allows to upload the backup onto untrusted servers.
Simplifies the use of duplicity by keeping clean configuration files to automate the backup.
Unison is a file-synchronization tool for OSX, Unix, and Windows. It allows two replicas of a collection of files and directories to be stored on different hosts (or different disks on the same host), modified separately, and then brought up to date by propagating the changes in each replica to the other.
Sia is a decentralized storage platform secured by blockchain technology. The Sia Storage Platform leverages underutilized hard drive capacity around the world to create a data storage marketplace that is more reliable and lower cost than traditional cloud storage providers.
Vorta is a backup client for macOS and Linux desktops. It integrates the mighty BorgBackup with your desktop environment to protect your data from disk failure, ransomware and theft.
Store files in Google Docs without counting against your quota.
Features
- Upload files to Google Drive without using storage space
- Download any stored files to your computer
Logic
- Google Docs take up 0 bytes of quota in your Google Drive
- Split up binary files into Google Docs, with base64 encoded text
- Size of the encoded file is always larger than the original. Base64 encodes binary data to a ratio of about 4:3.
- A single google doc can store about a million characters. This is around 710KB of base64 encoded data.
- Some experiments with multi-threading the uploads, but there was no significant performance increase.
È arrivata anche sulla stampa mainstream la notizia delle vulnerabilità chiamate Meltdown e Spectre dei processori Intel, AMD e ARM.
Senza entrare nel merito della gravità o meno della questione, riprendo un interessante commento "collaterale" di Alan Cox, guru del kernel Linux, riguardo ad una "check-list" per capire se siamo preparati alla eventualità di dover gestire alcune attività "di emergenza" che potrebbero essere di non semplice semplice realizzazione in caso non ci si fosse pensato preventivamente;
- So keep backups, test they work and have an up to date plan for what to do if/when your machine gets hit by something evil (or for that matter gets killed by coffee, cats, fire or other natural disasters).
- Do you have the phone number to cancel your bank cards if you have no computer or internet ?
- Do you know how to restore a backup on a new machine ?
- If you are dealing with proprietary software do you have copies of any license keys ?
- What plan do you have to change passwords on accounts and how will you do it with no PC of your own working?
Docker image for rclone based on alpine linux image, just over 10MB in size.
I've not tested it, yet.
borgmatic is a simple Python wrapper script for the Borg backup software that initiates a backup, prunes any old backups according to a retention policy, and validates backups for consistency.
The script supports specifying your settings in a declarative configuration file rather than having to put them all on the command-line, and handles common errors.
Features:
- Cross-platform support for Linux and Mac
- Automation (so there's no need to remember to click "backup")
- Point-in-time recovery (or something close) so if you accidentally delete a file but don't notice until later, it's still recoverable
- Low cost
- Replicated data store for backup sets, so data exists in more than one place (i.e., not just backing up to a local USB drive)
- Encryption in case the backup files fall into the wrong hands
restic
is a program that does backups right.
Features
- Easy: Doing backups should be a frictionless process, otherwise you are tempted to skip it.
Restic
should be easy to configure and use. - Fast: Backing up your data with
restic
should only be limited by your network or hard disk bandwidth so that you can backup your files every day. - Verifiable:
restic
enables you to easily verify that all data can be restored. - Secure:
Restic
uses cryptography to guarantee confidentiality and integrity of your data. The location where the backup data is stored is assumed to be an untrusted environment. - Efficient: With the growth of data, additional snapshots should only take the storage of the actual increment.
- Free:
restic
is free software and licensed under the BSD 2-Clause License and actively developed on GitHub.
TimeShift for Linux is an application that provides functionality similar to the System Restore feature in Windows and the Time Machine tool in Mac OS. TimeShift protects your system by taking incremental snapshots of the file system at regular intervals. These snapshots can be restored at a later date to undo all changes to the system.
Snapshots are taken using rsync and hard-links. Common files are shared between snapshots which saves disk space. Each snapshot is a full system backup that can be browsed with a file manager.
TimeShift is similar to applications like rsnapshot, BackInTime and TimeVault but with different goals. It is designed to protect only system files and settings. User files such as documents, pictures and music are excluded. This ensures that your files remains unchanged when you restore your system to an earlier date. If you need a tool to backup your documents and files please take a look at the excellent BackInTime application which is more configurable and provides options for saving user files.
TimeShift is a system restore tool for Linux. It provides functionality that is quite similar to the System Restore feature in Windows or the Time Machine tool in MacOS. TimeShift protects your system by making incremental snapshots of the file system manually or at regular automated intervals.
